“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” ~ Psalm 119:130
Some people think that whatever pops into their head is what they have to think about, and therefore say. That’s a recipe for disaster; it can also be hurtful to those around you. Thinking is a choice. Just as you exercise control over your body and how you behave, so should you exercise control over your mind and what you think and what you say. Our lives – what we do, say, or think – should in all ways reflect the light of Christ.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” ~ Matthew 5:16
After all, isn’t glorifying God the point of our lives?
The following verses can be applied to your thought pattern, as well as your behavior.
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” ~ Ephesians 4:29
In other words, let all you say (and think) be an encouragement to those around you.
“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” ~ Proverbs 16:24
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” ~ Colossians 3:2
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” ~ Philippians 4:8
Your thoughts have an impact on what you do. They can also affect those around you. Choose to have a positive impact. Remember that you are not, and were never meant to be, a slave to your thoughts, emotions, and/or actions. Rise above it! With Christ on your side, you can do it!
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” ~ Philippians 4:13
I hope this was helpful. It certainly has helped me and continues to day by day. May we all be an encouragement to each other in a world that has gone very dark. Be the Christian that really effectively shines the light of Christ on those around you. It isn’t easy. No one said it would be. But it is possible. Indeed, it is the only way.
“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging.” ~ 1 Peter 4:9-10
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us.” ~ 1 John 4:7-12
