Have you ever had to wait on something or someone? Has it ever seemed like the wait will never end? Elisabeth Elliot has some pretty great things to say about waiting..
“Waiting silently is the hardest thing of all… But the things that we feel most deeply we ought to learn to be silent about, at least until we have talked them over thoroughly with God.” ~ Elisabeth Elliot
Before you do anything about what may be weighing on your heart, go to the Lord! He cares for you in the best way and He wants to hear from you.
“Waiting on God requires the willingness to bear uncertainty, to carry within oneself the unanswered question, lifting the heart to God about it whenever it intrudes upon one’s thoughts.” ~ Elisabeth Elliot
So many people, myself included, tend to get impatient with the wait. However, restlessness is not a good thing, and patience and prudence are qualities of a wise person; so we should strive to wait with all the patience and prudence we can muster. It may well be that God is making you wait so that you can learn how to wait patiently.
“Restlessness and impatience change nothing except our peace and joy. Peace does not dwell in outward things, but in the heart prepared to wait trustfully and quietly on Him who has all things safely in His hands.” ~ Elisabeth Elliot
Don’t ever doubt the Lord’s purpose in your life! He knows what He’s doing, if only you will trust in Him.
“God always give His best to those who leave the choice with Him.” ~ Jim Elliot
Don’t try to rush ahead of His plan for you. He will give you the necessities when you need them and no sooner.
“God has promised to supply all our needs. What we don’t have now, we don’t need now.” ~ Elisabeth Elliot
So if God is telling you to wait, then wait and see what great things He has planned for you. Learn to be submissive to His design. And be of good courage.
“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14)
“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” (Romans 8:18)
“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him.” (Psalm 62:5)
Remember that He will never leave you. He may be quiet at times, but He will always be right there with you regardless of what you are facing.
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” (Isaiah 43:2)
“I am sure that God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait.” ~ C.S. Lewis
And of course, at the end of the wait, He will hear you and heal any hurt.
“…I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee..” (2 Kings 20:5)
