“I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until He please.” (Song of Solomon 8:4)

This verse is repeated several times in the Bible. If the Lord repeated it so much, I should think it is a very important command to heed.

“Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)

Be mindful of giving your heart away. Bestowing such affection on another, whether it’s made public or remains private, should not be a careless, haphazard thing. Such affairs of the heart can be serious. They should be dealt with carefully and with gravity. “Falling in love” with someone unawares can be a recipe for disaster. The Bible warns us about guarding our hearts several times. Be very careful with letting certain feelings and emotions get the better of you. Remember that it is better to be safe than to be sorry.

However, if you happen to be suffering from a broken heart, remember that the Lord is with you. He promises never to leave or forsake you, and what a promise that is! Trust in Him and seek comfort in His will and His word. He is the only One who can comfort your heart, for He made your heart. He knows your struggle; you are not going through this alone.

“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
