Hey y’all! I’m posting this early because I’m excited about it and I couldn’t wait till Saturday to post it! Haha 🙂
I was trying to figure out what kind of post to write for this week and I was reading through Proverbs and just kinda stumbled onto this verse! It’s Proverbs 6:16-19, it reads:
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him..” and it goes on to list those seven things. I felt drawn to this passage and I wanted to write about it since God laid it on my heart! 🙂
So let’s just get into it!
A Proud Look
It doesn’t go into detail on what that means, but here are some ideas that I had about it. Any kind of airs/graces, prideful “better than anyone else” attitudes, arrogance, haughtiness; those are some of the attributes I thought of when I read it.
A Lying Tongue
Now this one is probably self explanatory, but I’m gonna talk about it anyway. 😉 This can be any kind of lies, be it flat out lies, little white lies, lies of omission, anything deceitful. We’re not supposed to lie, even if the truth hurts or maybe it’s just something we’re not comfortable with, we must tell the truth always. The Lord hates lying and I know when I’ve been lied to in the past that I don’t like it either. I wouldn’t want someone lying to me, so with God’s grace I won’t lie myself.
Hands That Shed Innocent Blood
I think this one is also pretty self explanatory. Basically it’s talking about murder. That’s what I got from it.
A Heart That Deviseth Wicked Imaginations
Now this one is a little harder to describe for me, but basically, I think of it as a heart that is inclined towards evil. It could be bad thoughts, sinful imaginings, something that you know is wrong but you’re letting it play out in your mind anyway, stuff like that.
Feet That Be Swift In Running To Mischief
I took this to mean anyone who is always looking for trouble. You know, those people that like getting into bad situations, people who are always taunting others to get involved in bad situations. Just stay away from those kind of people.
A False Witness That Speaketh Lies
At first glance this one brought me back to the second one, a lying tongue, and I thought why would God repeat it in a different way? If God says something more than once it’s definitely something we should pay attention to. But this isn’t just talking about not lying. It’s talking about being a false witness. This could be in the form of a false testimony or maybe leading someone to think something about you without actually lying. We’re supposed to be witnesses for Christ, so it’s important that our testimony with others is genuine. 🙂
He That Soweth Discord Among Brethren
As soon as I read this, I automatically thought of gossip. Any kind of slander, envy, hostility, enmity, quarreling, we’re supposed to stay away from all of it. There’s no need to be talking about other people behind their back. I just know that I don’t want people talking about me behind my back, so it’s only right to repay the favor and not talk about someone else. None of us are perfect and we should be helping others to push on toward Jesus without pulling each other back or dragging each other down with gossip.
Anyway, these were just some thoughts I had this week and wanted to share them with you! I know the Lord placed them on my heart for a reason and I’m so happy to be able to write about it! Thank you so much for reading!!
I don’t say it enough, but I love and appreciate every single one of my readers! You guys are awesome, so thanks for following along! 😀
